Map of 1848 showing the line of the Beat Bank Branch

Possible part of Beat Bank Branch
Possible end of Reddish Vale part of Beat Bank

On the 26 th January 2003 we made an attempt to find some sign that the Beat Bank Branch existed. Above are two photographs taken close to Reddish Vale Farm which show a ditch at approximately the location shown on the bottom end of the northern section of the 1848 map. The line of the ditch appears to follow the correct line by slowly curving northwards towards the railway line through what is now Reddish Vale Nature Park. Does anyone know any better?

On the 12th April 2003 Jennie and I plus the grandchildren decided to look for more definitive evidence of the existence of the Beat Bank Canal.
As you can see from the pictures below we were successful. This is 100% Beat Bank Canal. The location of these photographs is the northern section of canal just to the left of Holt Wood on the above 1848 map. There is even a trickle of water which can be seen running on the bed in the second photograph.
Thanks to Ken Lowe for pointing the way

I found an interesting article describing  a short branch of the Stockport arm called the Beat Bank Branch.
