Manchester & Stockport Canal Society

Fancy a walk. Taken place. Click here for report.

The society is organising a walk of the canal line (or as near as possible) on the 20th march  2004. Why not come and join us to promote the interest in restoring the Stockport Branch of the Ashton Canal.

It is intended that we should meet at the Stockport end of the canal at 9:30 am in the lay-by adjacent to the car park of the shopping complex at the top of Lancashire Hill / Manchester Roada_Lancashire_Hill and be transported by bus to the junction with the Ashton Canal from where we will walk back to Stockport along the line of the canal arriving back at approximately 1:00 pm.

The walk of approximately 5 miles will allow us to follow the original line of the canal and to appreciate first hand the problems of restoring the canal.

If you are interested please e-mail me at      nb.jemsabi@ntlworld.com with contact detail.

Its important that we know how many are interested to enable  suitable transport to be arranged for short journey to Clayton (Stockport Junction). It will be necessary to make a small charge to cover the cost of the bus. This cost will be £3.00 per person.

For anyone requiring lunch, the Landlady of the Navigation pub has kindly agreed to put on sandwiches. The cost for food is not included in the seat price.
